In comparison to its neighbouring countries, Ghana is one of the more modern and politically 'stable' countries. Its wide valleys, low-lying coastal plains, and thick rainforests resound with the beat of traditional rituals, while her cities glow and vibrate with all the bustle of the modern world. Ghanaians are very friendly people, warm, proud and have a calming sense of humour. Find out for yourself, why this is one of our most popular programs!
The program in English-speaking Ghana allows participants to gain meaningful work experiences by contributing to community projects in the fields of education, health, HIV prevention, construction, conservation and many more. Make the most of your time overseas! Project placements are tailored to suit your interests and goals.
Volunteers commence their program in the capital city (Accra) with an introduction to the Ghanaian culture, including language lessons, sightseeing tours and an orientation to help you get settled in your new community, host family and project.
Following your orientation week, all volunteers are transferred to their new home and volunteer project. The placement will be based on the participant’s qualifications and areas of interest. The work location is in or near main regional towns but you can also choose to be placed in a more remote area. Click here to read our volunteer's blog.
Volunteers live with local families, who provide our volunteers with two meals on weekdays and three meals on weekends. The accommodation has basic furnishings and in some instances, there may be no running water or electricity.
